1. In which time period did the dinosaurs live?
Dear Alan: Most people get connected to the Internet so they can have e-mail at home. That's cool, but using the Web for homework and to find things out is getting more awesome every day. Ask your teacher or principal if your school can have a parents' night where you can show your dad the Web. A good starting place for parents is a Web site called "The 25 most incredibly useful sites" at www.zdnet.com/ yil/ content/ depts/ useful/ 25mostuse.html If you can't wait for a parents' night, go to a library, computer store or a cybercafe. Dear Amy: My mom thinks that there are no "kid-safe" chat rooms on the Internet. I'm 12 years old. Are there any safe ones for me to go into?-Sarah, Littleton, CO
Dear Sarah: There are tons of chat rooms for kids. Some of them are "monitored" so there is no bad language or adult material. The real danger is not the chat rooms, but the chance of private conversations with bad people who want to trick kids into doing dangerous things. I don't go to chat rooms because they are not as interesting as all the good things you can find on Web sites. There are lots of great Web sites at www.4kids.org/ coolspots
