Living Things

Discover what plants have in common with people and animals at the Biology of Plants, www.mbgnet.net/
bioplants. Plants, just like other living organisms, go through the many phases of life, including death. Starting to Grow will show you about the earliest stages when seeds first sprout. Plant Parts diagrams the different sections of plants and explains their functions. See how plants sustain themselves in Making Food, and discover how they reproduce in Pollination. Finally, Plant Adaptations will explain how plants can survive almost anywhere.

Colossal Canada

Take a big bite out of Canadian landmarks at Big Things: The Monuments of Canada, www.bigthings.ca. Instead of states, Canada has provinces. Begin searching for gargantuan greatness in Big Things by Province, where you can click on the provincial flag and see photos of what that area has to offer. You could find a giant beaver in Manitoba, a big black diamond in Alberta or a huge horse in New Brunswick. If you are looking for something specific, browse by subject or artist. Now you can start planning your big trip up north!

Pack It Up

A new school year is a chance to get a fresh start. This year, I'm going to change my lunches for the better. Packing your own lunch is a great option for those who want to use less waste. I plan to bring my lunch in reusable containers and use real silverware instead of plastic forks. Creating a waste-free lunch takes a little effort, but cutting out the trash helps the planet and can save money.

Bringing your own lunch is a great idea for kids who follow specific nutritional guidelines, such as diabetics and vegetarians. If you want to try packing your lunch this school year, check out these sites for recipes and tips:
