Speak Out

What activity do you try to participate in before going back to school?

Speak Out Here!

Dear Amy: The new school year begins next week and I would like to plan a fun family night before everyone gets back into the academic routine. Do you have any ideas? —
Stefan D., Seattle, Washington

Dear Stefan: The first thing to think about is what types of activities you and your family enjoy. Do you have an active family that likes to be outdoors looking for adventure? Or is there a fun project you could all do in the yard, such as planting a fall garden or building a treehouse? Asking yourself these questions will help narrow down your search for the best fit for your family. You can plan an indoor or outdoor activity that is sure to make great memories.

I’ve gathered some ideas my family and I have enjoyed together in the past. A couple of the most popular ones have been a campout in the backyard, a movie night with everyone’s favorite snacks, or a dinner where you all get to pick a dish to make. If your family enjoys games, you could plan a game night complete with each member’s go-to snacks.

Use your imagination to plan something fun. If you are looking for more ideas, check out Fun Family Activities for Kids, unicefkidpower.org/fun-family-activities-resources.
