Cartoon Creations

When I was first learning how to read I remember my mother sitting down with me to look at the Sunday comics in the newspaper. She would have me read to her the humorous lines for practice. To this day I enjoy reading comics because they are light-hearted and funny.

In just a few panels the cartoonist makes the characters come to life. It looks simple enough, but the creators have a lot of work to do to make a comic strip. There are many things to consider such as what the characters will be doing, wearing and saying.
If you have ever wanted to create your own comic strip, visit Comic Creator at www.readwritethink.org/materials/comic. You can choose from a variety of characters, such as people and animals, text balloons and props. For example, place a dinosaur in school or send a person into space.
