Savvy Investors

Young Investors will teach you how to earn money, invest it and make a plan to use it at www.younginvestor.com. You’ll learn a thing or two about the stock market and how to use cool words like “NASDAQ.” Want a trendy new item? Budgeting is the key to balanced saving and spending. If you don’t have a job, find out how to make the most out of your allowance or how to be a profitable baby sitter. You'll also find tips for landing a summer job. Don’t take this site too seriously, though. Have some fun playing money games. (This site is no longer available.)

Infuential Words

Rediscover history through the Great American Speeches of the last 80 years at www.pbs.org/ greatspeeches. Wonderful stories lay within the words of those who lived through history. In Speech Archives, you can read, hear and watch speeches by figures such as Franklin Roosevelt and Malcolm X, who helped shape America. Try to keep up with the TelePrompTer in the game “Could You Be a Politician?” Then take a shot at critiquing a speech in Critics’ Corner. (This site is no longer available.)

Get WireTapped In

Do you have your ear attached to NPR? Is your favorite television channel C-SPAN? If you’re young and in pursuit of the dirty truth about current events and issues, www.wiretapmag.com is the place to be. WireTap, an online magazine and forum, is where socially conscious young adults can read what others have to say and share their own opinions. WireTap covers issues such as child labor, presidential candidates and Middle Eastern rap artists. The Gallery always has cutting-edge images submitted by youths. The truth can be dirty, but it also makes life more interesting. (This site is no longer available.)

Creations in the Kitchen

I love trying new foods when I eat at a friend’s house. Buy why wait for an invitation to try something new? The Web is filled with recipe sites for snacks, desserts, main dishes and even drinks. Find something that sounds yummy, slip on an apron and get into the kitchen. Who knows? Maybe a little green eggs and ham will do the body good.
